Oregon State becomes the first team to lose two games as a CWS champion. The Beavers also become the first team to win six elimination games. This was Oregon State's first national championship since their 1961 cross country championship. For the first time the series attendance is over 300,000 at 310,609 and with an average of 22,186 per session. An error by North Carolina third baseman Brian Steed brought in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Oregon State wins the College World Series over North Carolina 3-2.
