College World Series

Years

Cal State Fullerton wins the College World Series over Texas 3-2.

Winning their final 32 out of 38 games, the Titans of Cal State Fullerton won their fourth College World Series with great pitching from Ricky Romero and the by the bat of Kurt Suzuki. Suzuki drove in the winning run for Fullerton after going 2 for 22 in the rest of the CWS. This was the first national title for Cal State Coach Horton and his pitcher Jason Windsor won the Most Outstanding Player Award by allowing only 2 runs in the 21 he pitched as well as throwing 29 strikeouts.

Dave Van Horn became the only coach in Series history to lose his first six games at Rosenblatt. When asked about this fact, Van Horn answered, "The other team outscored us six times. Ask a dumb question, get a dumb answer."

Once again, the College World Series set attendance records. One four game session drew 28,216 fans, the third largest all-time. The Series also drew an average of 23,339 per session, a record, and drew 256,730. The CWS Championship game between Cal State Fullerton and Texas drew 1.32 million television viewers on ESPN.
